Okay, so I've been meaning to update my journal for some time, and what better excuse than to post some of the best news I've heard for months!!

Direct from the Liverpool fc.tv website -
Rafa Benitez has spoken of his desire to keep Xabi Alonso at Anfield this summer.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a fine season after speculation about his future following Spain's Euro 2008 triumph.
Benitez said: "The first year was really good and this year he is also playing really well.
"Xabi has been having a very good season; he has been playing well in a lot of games and is a key player for us.
"We have a lot of confidence in him because he is playing really well and he is a player we want to keep because he has the quality, and the game, that we need."

Wonder if Rafa read my friend tessalonso 's petition after all!!:)

Liverpool v Fulham
Found out today we've got tickets for the game against Fulham a week this Saturday, can't wait!

Now I just need to pray that Xabi will be playing and not get rested (just my luck - but, no, think positive).  Don't think he'll play tonight in the Carling Cup against Tottenham but as long as he plays against Fulham I'll be happy.   And it will be the first chance I've had to wear my new Alonso home shirt!

Finally, Rafa Praises Xabi
Okay, so I've always stuck up for Rafa when others have called for his head, but since the summer fiasco when Xabi was treated so abysmally, I did begin to have my doubts.  Rafa's virtual refusal to openly comment positively on Xabi's fantastic start to the season left me bewildered.  Xabi has consistently been our best player, he deserves to be praised by his boss and here's hoping this will put to rest any transfer talk - although I won't be happy until the start of next season and Xabi is still a Red.

Rafael Benitez hails resurgent Xabi Alonso

Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, has paid tribute to the stunning form of Xabi Alonso, the midfielder he tried so hard to sell in the summer.

The Spanish midfielder came close to leaving Anfield in the summer as Benitez attempted to bolster his midfield with Gareth Barry, the Aston Villa captain. However, since then Alonso has played a key part in leading Liverpool to the top of the Barclays Premier League scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"What happened in the summer with Alonso is just football, and you always have to try to change things,” Benitez said. "Maybe I will now tell half a dozen players that I may sell them, maybe they will all start to play as well as Xabi.

"It doesn't matter whether I change my mind about something or the player changes his mind. What matters is that as a manager if I have a good player, a good professional, I will use that player for the benefit of the team.

"He is our player and we will try to take the best from him. He is showing the quality we know he has. Always he is a good professional, a good player.

Alonso only has to look as far as Liverpool’s next Premiership opponents to see the reality of what could have been, with Peter Crouch, now of Portsmouth, making way to finance the £20.3million signing of Robbie Keane.

"Just like Crouch, who we sold, people must not forget that these were players I wanted to sign, and did sign. They are good players,” Benitez added.

"We did not sell Xabi in the summer because the price was not good enough for such a talented player.

"That is simple, this is a football market, and now he is showing character and we have a very positive situation with competition for every place in the side being very high.

"Now Alonso is playing well and the team are playing well, that applies to everyone from Steven Gerrard to Daniel Agger."

Welcome to My Journal
Well, I've finally discovered Live Journal, completely by accident I might add.   Having been a life long Liverpool FC fan I recently realised that whilst Xabi Alonso was one of our most talented players, he was also the sexiest to have played for Liverpool since Paddy Berger left (well in my opinion anyway - and judging by how many Xabi fans there seem to be on Live Journal, I'm not the only one who thinks this).

What I'm most annoyed about is that I've only just come to my senses where Xabi is concerned, that boy has been right under my nose for the last 4 years and I've obviously been taking him for granted!!!  Even missed out watching Spain play their way through Euro 2008 so I've got a lot to make up for - just hope he's still around at Liverpool this time next year!!

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to chatting to like-minded Xabi fans.

Hey, if you're a fan of Connor Trinneer (Trip from Star Trek Enterprise/Michael from Stargate Atlantis), I'd love to hear from you too.

Maybe you can now see where I got my name from Xabi Trip ........
